New enhancements allow dentists to detect and diagnose decay and bone loss with Apteryx XVWeb Cloud Imaging from Planet DDS, powered by our partners in AI.
The new AI integration will provide real-time decision support to dentists as they review X-ray images with patients and increase confidence in their clinical decisions, promote proactive and preventative care, and enhance provider-patient relationships.
This is the only partnership in the industry that collectively delivers:
-
An FDA-cleared solution that can quantify bone levels in addition to detecting and outlining decay.
-
The scalability of the Apteryx XVWeb software, allowing practices to use virtually any imaging device.
How to view your images with our AI overlay
- To process a series with AI navigate to the patient's chart and select the series from the left hand preview bar. After approximately 1-2 minutes the data will be ready.
- If you are already viewing the series, select the series preview from the left hand bar one more time to refresh the series.
- If there are findings they will automatically be shown.
After selecting the AI button, you will be shown the following pathologies (Click them to learn more).
Bone Levels
Bone measurements will appear as green lines with endpoints indicated by small green circles. The presence of radiographic bone loss (excess of 3mm from the CEJ to crest of bone) or bone level (less than 3mm from CEJ to crest of bone) will also be identified on the image. Measurements under 3 mm are in green, and higher than or equal to 3 mm are in red.Decay
Carious lesions predicted by the AI model will be shown as polygons on the specific tooth in the radiograph. Decay is highlighted in red on Bitewing RadiographsBone Ratio
Bone measurements will appear as green lines with endpoints indicated by small green circles. The presence of radiographic bone loss (excess of 3mm from the CEJ to crest of bone) or bone level (less than 3mm from CEJ to crest of bone) will also be identified on the image. Measurements under 15% are in green, and higher than or equal to 15% are in red.
Pathologies
Pathologies for the currently selected image can be enabled or disabled by selecting the boxes to the left of each Pathology.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to see results from Overjet?
Once your images are in the web, they begin immediate processing. After approximately 1-2 minutes the data will be ready. This may take longer for sensors with very high resolution.
Can all patient images be used with AI?
The currently approved pathologies and their requirements are below
Decay: 18 years and older
Bone Loss/Bone Ratio: 22 years and older. Images containing only adult teeth
Can all types of images be used with AI?
Intraoral x-rays (taken with a sensor/phosphorous plate scanner) will be available for use with XVWeb's AI tool.
What should I do if I disagree with a finding?

What is the difference between bone level and bone loss?
Overjet identifies bone level as any measurement less than 3mm from CEJ to crest of bone. Bone
